Nurse Spotlight: Ashlee Coppus, RN

What I Do for Work

I’m an RN at REVIV Las Vegas, where I help people feel their best through IV drip therapy. It’s a proactive approach to health—instead of waiting to feel run down, our patients choose to take care of themselves ahead of time.

I bring more than 23 years of nursing experience to this role, including emergency care, labor and delivery, and correctional healthcare. Those years taught me how to stay calm and focused in every situation, and they gave me IV skills I’ve always considered an art. Being able to use that experience in a wellness-focused setting is both refreshing and rewarding.

How I Got Here

I started my career as a nursing assistant, then became an LPN and eventually an RN. This October, I started my RN-to-BSN program because I believe it’s important to keep learning and moving forward.

I actually came across REVIV while walking through the Cosmopolitan Hotel—a place I’ve always loved. I saw the clinic and thought, “This is exactly where I want to be.” I was drawn to the idea of helping people stay healthy, energized, and feeling their best, not just treating them once they’re already sick. It felt like the perfect next chapter in my nursing journey.

A Day in My Life

My mornings start pretty early. I get my elderly mother ready for the day, then get my 12-year-old son off to school before heading to work.

At REVIV, no two days are the same. Throughout the day, I’m starting IV drips, giving IM shots, monitoring patients as they relax in our lounge, and answering questions about which therapies might fit their goals—whether they’re looking for energy before a big event, recovery after a night out, or just routine hydration and vitamins. I love meeting people from around the world and seeing how much better they feel after treatment.

The Most Rewarding Aspect of My Job

The best part of working at REVIV is being part of such a great team and helping people take control of their health in a way I didn’t always see in traditional nursing. After so many years in the ER, I was used to meeting people when they were already at their worst. At REVIV, I get to help them stay ahead of it—whether they’re here for recovery, hydration, energy, or just to keep up with their wellness routine.

It’s also exciting to be part of a company that’s helping people all over the world approach wellness in a new way. REVIV operates in more than 40 countries, which means the same therapies I provide in Las Vegas are helping patients stay healthy across the globe. I really enjoy meeting patients from so many different places and seeing how much better they feel after treatment. It’s rewarding to know you’re making an immediate difference, but also supporting their long-term health. And I still take a lot of pride in my IV skills. It’s something I’ve always loved doing, and it’s nice to use that skill to help people feel their best instead of just getting them through a crisis.

My Self-Care Routine (or What I Do for Fun or to Relax)

For me, self-care is about keeping my own energy up so I can give my best to others. I get my Methyl B12 injection every two weeks, keep up with IV hydration, and I always make time for a monthly massage to recharge.

When I really want to relax, I keep it simple—sitting in the backyard by the pool with a good book. And when I want something more active, I’m usually out on the water boating, paddleboarding, or hiking with family.

Headlines in Healthcare

The health care fight and the government shutdown

The shutdown centers on a health care dispute: While Republicans say Affordable Care Act tax credits don't expire until December, Democrats want them extended before Nov. 1 enrollment, making this a condition for reopening the government, NPR reports.

Strike looming at Kaiser Permanente clinics

SFGATE reports that nurses and healthcare workers at Kaiser Permanente clinics in Northern California and Hawaii are planning a five-day strike—the largest in union history. Tens of thousands of employees across over two dozen hospitals, including non-nursing roles, are participating. Main issues include stagnant wages, unsafe staffing, and lack of retirement security.

High-fat diet and brain health

SciTechDaily reports that University of Missouri researchers found a high-fat, low-carb diet may protect brain health and lower Alzheimer's risk, especially in those with the APOE4 gene. Female APOE4 mice on the diet had healthier gut bacteria and higher brain energy than controls.
