Nurse Spotlight: Amy Suphunthuchat, RN

What I Do for Work

I currently work at REVIV in Las Vegas, NV. My work centers on a proactive approach to health and maximizing wellness. In this role, I work closely with patients to understand their goals and meet them where they are, developing treatment plans that are both effective and individualized. Whether they are seeking wellness, recovery, or both, I am committed to helping them achieve it through IV and IM therapy.

Alongside this, I practice as a perioperative nurse at an ambulatory surgery center and have managed a medical aesthetics practice specializing in injectables. Earlier in my career, I also worked in specialties such as oncology, plastic surgery, and COVID-19 response—roles that gave me a strong clinical foundation and continue to shape the way I approach patient care today.

How I Got Here

I never had an easy answer to the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” For a long time, I struggled to picture myself in any field and felt behind for lacking the passion others seemed to have. Nursing, however, made sense. It combined science with human connection, along with the stability I was raised to value. What began as a practical choice grew into something meaningful, giving me purpose and a path I’m proud to call my own.

I graduated in December 2020 and began my career as an RN the following January. Since then, I’ve explored a range of specialties—oncology, perioperative care, aesthetics, and wellness—each one shaping the nurse I am today. What has carried me through each step is the same motivation: using my skills in a way that makes people feel cared for, supported, and stronger than when they first came to me.

A Day in My Life

My days rarely look alike, but one constant is that they always begin with coffee.

At REVIV, I may be caring for multiple patients in the clinic or heading out for concierge visits, which keeps my day varied and engaging. I enjoy the balance of technical skill and personal connection—whether I’m placing an IV, monitoring progress, or simply making sure a patient feels comfortable and cared for.

On surgical days, my role shifts to the operating room. I might be admitting patients in pre-op, circulating and keeping the room running smoothly during procedures, or supporting recovery in PACU—always hoping patients wake up calm and comfortable. The fast pace and constant teamwork make those days both challenging and rewarding.

No matter the setting, what stays consistent is the sense of purpose I carry home: knowing that, in some way, I helped make someone’s day a little better.

My Self-Care Routine (or What I Do for Fun or to Relax)

My self-care routine is a balance of both fun and relaxation. Fun keeps me going, while relaxation keeps me healthy. For fun, I turn to snowboarding. I love how free it makes me feel—away from life’s stressors and surrounded by the beauty of nature. In those moments, nobody needs me, and I can simply exist for myself. It clears my mind and helps me reset. The experience is surreal, exciting, and an incredible workout all at once. On the other side of that balance, relaxation is just as important. For me, it often means keeping things simple—allowing myself a lazy day, sleeping in, taking it slow, and giving myself permission to just be without worry.

Headlines in Healthcare

Government shut down and undocumented immigrants

Claims that Democrats are causing a government shutdown to provide free health care to undocumented immigrants are false, AP News Fact Focus reports. They state that undocumented immigrants do not qualify for Medicaid or ACA subsidies under federal law. Democrats aim to restore subsidies and reverse Medicaid cuts for eligible Americans. Hospitals must, by law, provide emergency care regardless of immigration status, but the reimbursements for undocumented immigrants are a minor part of Medicaid expenses. Thus, AP news found the narrative about free health care for undocumented immigrants misrepresents the facts and policy discussions.

Measles outbreak in South Carolina

The South Carolina Department of Public Health reports a measles outbreak in the Upstate region, with eight confirmed cases as of October 1. Five cases arose in the past month, and two have no known exposure or travel history, indicating community spread. All individuals were unvaccinated and lacked immunity. The state is conducting contact tracing and exposure notifications, urging MMR vaccination as the best protection. Nationally, the CDC has recorded 1,544 cases in 41 states in 2025, with over 40 outbreaks so far.

Telehealth visits for those on Medicare face cancelations

Medicare’s expanded telehealth coverage expired on October 1, after Congress failed to renew it. According to an article by Roll Call, providers are now canceling appointments or notifying Medicare patients that they may have to pay out of pocket. The expansion allowed home-based telehealth access, benefiting older adults and people with disabilities. Telehealth use was highest among those on Medicare due to disability. Uncertainty about reimbursement has led some providers to halt services. Those most impacted are people with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or those who are immunocompromised and rely on remote care.
