Headlines in Healthcare

Nurses push back against hospital AI adoption

Newsweek reported that several hospitals in New York City are receiving strong pushback from nurses over the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence in patient care. Recently, many nurses expressed concern that hospital investments are shifting toward “artificial care” rather than real, trained clinicians. Staff members warn that replacing human nurses with AI-driven tools could compromise patient safety and quality of care.

Major travel-nurse company merger collapses

Nurse.org announced that the planned $615 million acquisition of Cross Country Healthcare by Aya Healthcare has officially been terminated. The collapse of the deal has significant implications for travel nurses across the country, including potential shifts in job availability, pay structures, and agency competition. Industry experts note that the failed merger could slow consolidation within the travel-nursing market.

24/7 RN staffing requirement rolled back

Federal authorities have rescinded the previous requirement mandating 24/7 registered nurse staffing in nursing homes. With the rule now eliminated, long-term care facilities have more flexibility in setting staffing levels, a change that may lead to fewer RNs on duty, heavier patient loads, and increased strain on existing nursing staff. Nurse.org reported that many frontline nurses worry this rollback could affect workplace safety and patient outcomes.
