Nurse Spotlight: Pauline Hilario, RN

What I do for work

I work as a registered nurse at Reviv, an IV clinic located on the Las Vegas Strip. Every day, I get the opportunity to help clients feel their best—whether that’s through wellness infusions to boost energy and hydration, or recovery infusions for those who aren’t feeling well.

But I haven’t always been an IV nurse. My nursing career started in a skilled nursing facility, where I built a strong foundation in patient care. From there, I moved into different areas of nursing, including medical-surgical, telemetry, step-down ICU, orthopedics, and outpatient surgery. Most recently, I worked as a case manager, helping Medicare and Medicaid patients navigate their healthcare needs.

Every step I've taken has taught me something new and molded me into the nurse I am today. What I cherish most is the ability to draw on all of these experiences to care for my patients, supporting their health and overall well-being.

How I got here

Nursing wasn’t actually my first career choice—I originally dreamed of becoming a physical therapist. But, like many in the Filipino community, I had a parent who encouraged me to pursue nursing. Looking back, I’m grateful my father nudged me in this direction, because nursing has turned out to be the perfect fit for me.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in 2013. Since then, I’ve built a diverse career in nursing across several specialties, each one giving me a broader perspective and a deeper passion for patient care.

Today, I’m continuing my education at Chamberlain University, where I’m working toward my Master of Science in Nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. My goal is to practice in primary care, with a special focus on the geriatric population—a group I feel especially drawn to supporting through compassionate, comprehensive care.

More on Pauline Hilario, RN

A day in my life

A typical day at the clinic starts with welcoming clients and guiding them through the process. I begin by assessing how they’re feeling and helping them choose the infusion that best fits their needs—whether they’re looking for a wellness boost or recovering from a long night out. I check their vital signs, review their health history, and consult with our provider on call to ensure they’re cleared for treatment.

No two days are the same, which is part of what makes the work so exciting. The clinic is especially lively on weekends, when we often see groups coming in together—bachelor and bachelorette parties, conference attendees, or concertgoers getting ready for big events on the Strip. It’s a fast-paced environment, but I love the energy and the chance to help people feel their best while enjoying everything Las Vegas has to offer.

My self-care routine (or what I do for fun, or to relax)

Outside of work and graduate school, I make it a priority to take care of myself and enjoy life. For me, that often means traveling—quick weekend getaways do wonders for my mental health. Over the past year, my boyfriend and I have enjoyed visiting places both near and far, from San Diego, Big Bear Lake, and Napa Valley to Disneyland, Chicago, London, and Paris. Sharing those experiences together has made travel even more meaningful and restorative.

When I’m not on the go, I find joy in the kitchen. Cooking and baking help me unwind, and I especially love preparing meals for my friends and family. Lately, I’ve also developed a growing passion for wine—learning about different varieties and exploring how they pair with food has become one of my favorite ways to relax and discover new flavors.

Headlines in Healthcare

New guidelines for hypertension

Nearly half of Americans have hypertension—the top risk factor for heart disease and stroke—and only one in four has it under control. In August, the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology issued new guidelines: hypertension is now defined by lower blood pressure targets, with "elevated blood pressure" starting at 120-129/<80. This change classifies more people as hypertensive.

Vitamin B3 and OTC skin cancer prevention

Vitamin B3 (nicotinamide), an OTC supplement, may help prevent skin cancer. In a study of 33,000 U.S. veterans, those taking 500 mg twice daily for 30 days developed fewer skin cancers than non-users. Nicotinamide aids DNA repair and may reduce UV damage. However, current evidence is from retrospective analyses, not controlled trials. It should not replace standard skin cancer prevention.

AI to forecast over 1,000 diseases

Delphi-2M is an AI model that assesses health data from a UK biobank of 500,000 people to predict risk for over 1,000 diseases. It identifies individuals at higher risk for issues like heart attacks, supporting early intervention and efficient healthcare. Although not clinically approved yet, with validation, it could help shift focus to disease prevention.
