Headlines in Healthcare

CMS’ accreditation overhaul: What it means for hospitals

CMS has finalized a new rule to tighten oversight of the nine accrediting organizations that survey over 9,000 Medicare-participating providers each year, according to Becker's Hospital Review. The shift aims to strengthen federal health and safety compliance, prompting hospital leaders to re-evaluate their survey preparation strategies. This move reflects a broader agency effort to ensure that accrediting bodies uphold consistent standards of quality and patient safety across the healthcare system

How 3 health systems are growing their own pharmacy workforce

As pharmacy staffing shortages continue to pressure departments, several health systems are pivoting to create their own talent pipelines rather than relying solely on external recruitment. These organizations are implementing technician training programs and expanding residency positions to prepare staff for specialized roles. While these initiatives require significant upfront investment, leadership notes that the strategy is successfully improving long-term recruitment and workforce stability, according to Becker's Hospital Review.

Banner Health clinicians file to unionize

Physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants at Phoenix-based Banner Health have filed a petition to unionize with the Union of American Physicians and Dentists, according to Becker’s Hospital Review. If successful, the move would cover more than 240 clinicians who serve over 500,000 patients annually. The organizing effort is driven by clinician concerns regarding staffing levels, scheduling practices, and unaddressed patient panel sizes.
