Headlines in Healthcare

AHA supports nursing workforce funding bill

To address national nursing shortages, the American Hospital Association has endorsed the National Nursing Workforce Center Act of 2025. According to the AHA, this bipartisan Senate bill would establish a two-year federal pilot program to fund and expand state-based nursing workforce centers. This initiative represents a critical effort to provide resources to alleviate persistent staffing challenges impacting the profession.

WVU Medicine program boosts nursing student retention

To combat financial barriers for nursing students, WVU Medicine has awarded up to $25,000 to assist with living expenses rather than just tuition. According to Becker's Hospital Review, the system has already enrolled nearly 1,000 participants in its Aspiring Nurse Program. The initiative aims to improve student retention and secure future staffing for the health system.

Wisconsin expands clinical nursing faculty eligibility

To address nursing workforce shortages and expand student capacity, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers approved an emergency rule allowing registered nurses with a bachelor's degree to teach clinical courses. According to Becker's Hospital Review, the state previously required clinical instructors to hold a master's degree, a policy officials identified as a bottleneck for nursing education programs. This change aims to allow more applicants to enter the field by removing educational barriers for faculty hiring.
