Nurse Spotlight: Amanda Williams RN, BSN, CCRN
What I do for work
This year I started my own business called West Consulting Group. In one arm of it, I offer legal nurse consulting services and in the other arm, I offer career coaching to nurses from pre-nursing students to experienced nurses. Both have been very fulfilling for me to be able to take care of our next generation of nurses so they can find their passion and specialty, as well as help families find some justice in the legal system. I still work full-time in the PACU working three 12-hour shifts per week at the hospital but that leaves me with 4 days off to work on my own business on the side.
How I got here
I was brought into a court case and noticed I felt scared in the process when I realized didn’t know much about the legal world. Instead of letting it intimidate me, I took a course in legal nurse consulting to start studying the topic more to not let the fear overtake me. I found so many great resources and classes and this inspired me to start my consulting business. I later began the coaching branch of my business because when I graduated nursing school, I felt I had such limited resources and opportunities to start my career. I had to teach myself and find mentors to learn how to move up the career ladder in my career. Now my goal is to be there for nurses in any part of their career journey.

A day in my life
To find clients, I usually go to Linked In to search “nursing students”. I’ll ask to connect with them, congratulate them on getting into nursing school, and let them know I’m available if they need any resources or help in their career advancement. I also have had success with word-of-mouth connections from networking within my own specialty or via family and friends that are in nursing school. I tend to work on my legal consulting business on weeknights after the kids have gone to bed where I will look at medical records or write up expert testimony.
My self-care routine
I try to reserve the weekend for time with my family and kids. We love to go camping and to do things together during our free time. One piece of advice I always give is to make time to really care for yourself the minute you start nursing because it can be a taxing career caring for others day in and day out and the stress can catch up to you. Time with friends, family, and doing what you love is so important to maintaining a happy balanced life as a nurse.

About 15,000 union nurses remained on strike Tuesday as talks stalled with major NYC hospital systems. The union alleges retaliation and intimidation, including firings and surveillance, while nurses demand safe staffing, workplace safety protections, and fully funded benefits after contracts expired Dec. 31, 2025.
